Floor Preparation

When installing under floor heating with vinyl floor there is very little floor preparation needed, it is important that the subfloor is flat and smooth (Latex level compound may be needed). When the floor is flat ensure that it is free from dust and debris.

Installation Steps (Method 1)

  1. Dry lay your Easy-Heat insulation (cut to shape with a stanley knife)
  2. Once you are happy that all the boards will fit, remove the boards remembering where they will go
  3. mix your and spread rapid set flexible tile adhesive over your subfloor (3mm notch trowel) and replace the Easy heat insulation applying a bit of pressure to ensure it bonds
  4. Allow the flexible adhesive to set, if using rapid set flexible adhesive you should be able to walk on the insulation within 2 hours
  5. Lay down your ribbon heating mats using the double sided tape on each end of the heating mats
  6. Where required use Allbrite's high adhesive tape to secure the edges
  7. Route the cold leads (live & neutral) to a junction box just above skirting board level
  8. Check the resistance of the heating elements matches with the resistance chart in installation manual
  9. Connect the cold leads using the revolutionary 5 lever quick connectors
  10. Mix and spread your latex level compound to a depth of 3mm making it as smooth as possible
  11. Once the level compound has set, apply another 3mm latex making it very smooth using a float
  12. Once the latex has set, lay your vinyl or safety floor as normal
  13. See Electrical section for setting up electrics, if installing in a wet area please see grounding kits
  14. Sit back and enjoy

Installation Steps (method 2)

  1. Roll out your 6mm therm-all insulation and cut so it covers the whole floor
  2. Lay you ribbon under floor heating mats on the insulation
  3. Use double sided tape on mats to stick the under floor heating mats to the insulation
  4. Where required use additional high adhesive tape to ensure the heating mats are secured
  5. Route the cold leads (live & neutral) to a junction box just above skirting board level
  6. Check the resistance of the heating elements matches with the resistance chart in installation manual
  7. Connect the cold leads using the revolutionary 5 lever quick connectors
  8. Lay the heat-pak overlay board over the top of the underfloor heating, then lay your vinyl floor over the top of the heat-pack
  9. See Electrical section for setting up electrics, if installing in a wet area please see grounding kits
  10. Sit back and enjoy

Special Notes:

While under floor heating is in operation it is important that no thermal barriers are placed over the top of the heating elements, thermal barriers include boxes of books or paper, bean bags, heavy rugs, large quantities of bedding or high tog quilts. If you are unsure as to what can be placed over the under floor heating please contact your vendor.

Please remember heating mats cannot be cut, bent or overlapped, please see sizing chart and planning for full details.
