A home owner from Mostyn in North Wales saw the advantages of making his home as energy efficient as possible. When he purchased his new home he was aware that if something was not done he would be wasting a lot of energy through his walls, roof and floor. This is where the decision was made to do everything he could to Insulate and install products that would either reduce fuel requirements and even generate electricity and hot water through solar panels. The house was firstly reduced to a shell removing all the old damp plaster to allow for new damp proofing to be carried out, once complete the inside of the external walls were insulated to reduce heat loss as much as possible. Some of the windows were already double glazed however all the windows have been updated to include the latest technologies to further help with the reduction of heat loss. The roof and some of the trusses were in a poor state which meant that parts of the structure had to be replaced and all of the roof felted and slated. At the time of the roof being replaced, solar photovoltaic panels and solar water heating panels were installed which enabled the homeowners to generate their own electricity and heat water using the sun.
