Solar panels to float on water

An Italian Professor has created the world’s first photovoltaic floating plant.

Marco Rosa-Clot, a professor at Florence University has built the structure on the tiny lake of Colignola in Italy.

The solar panelled float tracks the sun and stores energy whilst the water of the lake keeps temperature to a minimum.

At an estimated price of around 1,600 euros per kW including installation, a plant the size of Colignola could cost some 48,000 euros ($63,000).

There has been worldwide interest in the Professor’s rotating solar panels and although just a prototype for now, the idea could soon be seen on a lake near you!
