Solar panels go through the roof!
Listen to the Podcast
Solar panels are sprouting up across north Wales. Local authorities have discovered they can save money by erecting the panels on their property stock.
Wrexham County Borough Council has pledged £60m to power 3,000 houses with the sun.
It’s claimed energy bills will be cut on average by £300.
The installation has already begun and the project is set to be completed by March 2012.
The authority is taking out a loan to pay for the installments but the money will get paid back through a Government tariff incentive scheme which is expected to see the council make a profit.
Meanwhile, The National Trust has scrapped many of its plans to install green energy at stately homes across Britain because of the Government’s decision to reduce funding.
Solar panels on country mansions are part of the trust’s plans to halve its energy use over the next 10 years and save money at the same time.
The concerns were disclosed in a letter to Wrexham MP Ian Lucas who is also against any cuts.
The reduction in the tariff has largely been put into place to control government spending on feed in tariffs as ultimately everyone pays for the tariff through their electricity bills.
Allbrite remain committed to ensuring that our customers will still benefit from the best possible return on investment for all solar pv installations completed after 12th December 2011.
